Auchtavan is a Deeside fermtoun which features a cruck-framed byre house with surviving hanging lum, as well as a corn kiln and horse mill. Robert Gray who described and analysed it in Vernacular Building 47 will lead discussions on the site.
We will meet at the parking area on the A93 west of Ballater at 1015; and then walk the two miles to the site. Land Rover transport is available for those requiring it. There is a dry area under cover to eat lunch in; attendees should bring their own refreshments. There is a compost toilet at the site.
We plan to return to the parking area at 1500.
Attendees should come prepared for spending time on an open hillside, with appropriate clothing and footwear.
Charge (bank details will be circulated to those attending for advance payment):
Members £10
Non-members £15
